Acute Kidney Failure

What shuts down our kidneys

Kidneys are a pair of organs that filter by-products and toxins from the blood and they balance the fluids in the body. They eliminate excess water from the body all the while they absorb all useful chemicals from it.

Once acute kidney failure occurs the body has no organ to balance the fluids, and it has no way to filter out the toxins from the blood, and the blood becomes filled with toxins that poison all other parts of the system.

Acute kidney failure causes

There are three types of acute kidney failure causes, renal, prerenal and postrenal. Most common type of acute kidney failure cause is prerenal cause. This may happen due dehydration (vomiting, diarrhea and so on) and reduced blood flow to the kidneys (this may happen due to very low pressure or a sudden drop in blood pressure, blockage of arteries that carry blood toward the kidneys, heart attack or a liver failure).

Rarest form of acute kidney failure is a postrenal failure as it must be caused by obstruction of urine excretion. As long as this obstruction is removed and the damage to kidneys is low, kidney failure can be prevented. Postrenal failure can be caused by obstruction of either urethra (kidney stone, tumor, kidney cancer, cancer of the urinary tracts) or bladder (bladder stone, blood clot, bladder cancer or enlarged prostate).Renal failure of the kidneys is the most complicated type of kidney failure as it involves damage to filtering function or blood supply of the kidneys. Most common blood supply issues that lead to renal kidney failure include blood vessel diseases, blood clot, injury to tissues and cells of the kidney and Glomerulonephritis.

Symptoms of acute kidney failure

There are many different symptoms of kidney failure, and you should seek medical help if you think that you may suffer from this condition. In some cases, the damage can be repaired. The majority of the acute kidney failure symptoms are very subtle, but they may be recognized if you know what to look for. Confusion and problems with concentration as well as fatigue are some of the more subtle kidney failure symptoms. Other symptoms include a decrease in urine production (this is hard to notice), body swelling (if it happens to go straight to the doctor), lethargy, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

There are also some symptoms that are signs of severe complication of kidney state and if you suffer from any of them you should seek medical help as soon as possible. These symptoms may come in a form of severe vomiting and nausea, severe bleeding and weakness, difficulty in breathing, fainting and so on.

Treatment of acute kidney failure

Treatment of this condition depends on the severity of the kidney failure and the amount of the damage toxic blood has done to the body. The primary focus of the treatment is the removal of the cause of acute kidney failure.

A secondary focus is set on repairing the damage done by the waste carried by the blood as well as filtration of the blood itself.
