This is our original breeding room or Breeder House A. When we started,
October 19, 2001, we had 15 lbs. of worms. That is about 45,000, which includes eggs
to adult breeders. We started with old refrigerators that we used for
beds. In March 2002, we had to move worms to the big house! |
|
This
is Breeder House
B !
We built it out of oak dunage, which we purchased
from a mill close by. For those who don't know what dunage is, they
are boards that for one reason or another (too thick on one end, cracks,
too wide, etc.) don't meet standards, has to be sold as
scrap. This building started at 30' X 40' , which is about 1,200 sq. ft.
|
|
|
By August
of 2002, we were ready to expand again. We added on to
Breeder House B
making it now
30' X 100'
, which is
3,000 sq. ft.
Let's go look
inside!
|
In March 2002, after only 4 months of breeding, we had moved
enough stock to fill this side of the building. We also built the bins you
see above left
, out of oak dunage. They
were a bit heavy! We decided to build PITS , like those above
right !
We tried the white plastic
barrels you see above . We took 55 gallon drums and cut them in half.
They were still too bulky for a massive breeding operation such as
ours, so we replaced these with pits, as well. They are, however,
ideal for Personal or Starter farms!
You can design pits to suit your space.
May 2002, we again had to move half
our stock. We took half of our stock from the old bins on the right and
moved them to the old bins on left, as shown above left . We also replaced these wooden
bins with larger pits, like the ones you see above right . We added more bedding material
to refill all
the beds & began
a new cycle.
We are currently selling
ALL the plastic Starter Pits!
Shipping &
Handling not
included!
Bins only: $15
|
Starter Bin Kits (above) : $50
(includes: bin w/handles, drainage,
2-3 lbs.
red worms & bedding)

Our red wigglers in the
plastic bins
are pictured
above left & the ones in the
pits are pictured above right ! All our worms come from our
original
15 lb. purchase
of eisenia
foetida (red
worms) , which
were shipped to us from New York in October 2001!
In August
2002, we moved half our stock from breeder room B into the new addition we built,
Breeder C . We are now 30' X 100' or 3,000 square feet! As you will notice above , we have gone strictly to using our best pit design, which is
all we will use from now on. It wasn't long before we had to start building
pits outside.
We started by constructing
pits against the outside of our 3,000 sq. ft. breeding house. Above are the pits we have built
outside, along the front & back sides of our Breeder House .
We have already begun construction on our outside pits! The
pits above,
were recently built
back behind
our Breeder House .
Above left is a view of all 6 of our newest outside pits (the pit on
bottom of picture & 5 pits along side in top of picture). Above right , is a close up of those pit
designs. The dimensions
on these pits are roughly 18' X 65' .
By March 2003, we
had several 1 billion worms. We have 10 acres to build on and plan to be one of the
largest Breeders
of Red Wigglers in the world! We were currently
able to supply 1,000 pounds of worms every month. This figure should
double every couple of months!
We are now ready to begin filling your orders
for worms!
